Seattle Family Photographer Captures a Sweet Little Girl

This little girls’ unabashed smile reminds me of what joy feels like; it’s what feeling like there’s nothing bad happening in the world. A good smile can wash it all away so easily.

“We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

The other day my son and I were walking home from the bakery. We were standing in the crosswalk and a car honked at another car, for reasons unknown to me. Suddenly, the windows rolled down and screaming began in both cars. Lots of anger and heated exchanges. I looked over at my son who witnessed it all and thought. “Oh dear. How do I explain this?” I was trying to think it through as much as possible before the inevitable “Why?”  came out of his 3-year-old inquisitive mouth.

Why are there bad people in the  world?
Why are there liars?
Why do people hurt each other?
Why are there dishonest people?
Why do people hurt each other?

How do we even begin to explain this? When ‘bad things’ happen to us, it gives us a chance to answer these questions by example. The real lesson is how we react. That’s how we teach our kids how to handle the bad that seems to surround us. Yes, there are bad people out there that make bad decisions and we can never change that. What we are in control of is who we are in this world and how we respond to the forces around us.

I am working on this now as I move through some lessons of my own. These smiles are a powerful reminder that something so simple-just a smile- wash the bad right out of the world.

Enjoy this sweet Family Photography Session and a beautiful smile that goes on for days.
